ITV - factual programmes

• The Fast Fix: diabetes

This is a documentary series shown on the ITV channel, about a group of morbidly obese and diabetic people working on curing their conditions. This programme is aired at 9pm.

• The Jeremy Kyle Show

This is an entertainment show based on factual events, in which people experiencing complicated personal situations are given help on resolving those issues. This programme is aired at around 9am.

• Trevor McDonald: Return to South Africa

In celebration of Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday. A man returns to the country in which he first began his journalism carrier. This programme is aired at 9pm.

• 
  Prisons Uncovered: Out of Control?  

A new documentary exposing current affairs behind bars and showing the inside story of the prison system. This programme is aired at 10:45pm.

• Take me Out

This is an entertainment programme in which couples are matched up, depending on their likes and dislikes. The men are presented with multiple girls which then chose, based on information such as hobbies, whether they would like to go on a date with him. This programme is aired at 8pm.

ITV - fictional programmes

• Coronation Street

The story of the everyday lives of ordinary people living in the Northern town of Weatherfield. This programme is aired at 8pm.

• Emmerdale

The story of a small village with a lot of drama.  This programme is aired at 7pm.

• Broad church

A crime thriller set on the Dorset coast during the holiday season. This programme was released in 2013 and is not longer aired.

• Downton abbey

A pre WW1 drama about the struggle of the upper class in contrast to the people in their service. The first episode was aired in 2010.

• White chapel

An expert in historical homicides and a modern detective investigates modern crimes in connection with past events, in the Whitechapel district of London. This programme was aired from 2009-2013

ITV3 is a home for popular classic drama series from ITV, alongside a selection of choice factual and entertainment programmes.




ITV4 is great escapism with a mixture of live sport, iconic movies, US acquired shows and cult classics.

Channel 5 -  programmes

Channel 5 airs a wide variety of programming that covers various genres and themes. But are currently targeted to documentary and factual programmes, for example GPs behind closed doors.  Launched in 1997, the channel has always been seen to have less distinctive programming than their other terrestrial rivals at the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
