Aims and intentions ( draft )

I will use media language to establish location and status in the programme. Lighting and colour will allow the audiences to follow which 'world' the character is immersed in. The lighting and colour of the production will be very bright and pure when the character is in his dreamscape, however, when the character begins to flip back to reality, lighting will become darker and grainier, and colours on set will be monotone, e.g browns, blacks... The costume of the main character will be the main focus of status change, as when the character is immersed in his dreamscape, he will see himself as a successful business man, dressed in a suit with his hair combed back. However, when in reality he will be dressed in tatty clothes, with mud on his face and hands, and his hair very messy. This is to represent the drastic difference in the two lives. Close up shots will be used to elude audiences, as they reveal the face of the character rather than the whole location. However, close ups on the main character will occur when he is flipping between his dreamscape and reality. Therefore, the characters eyes will be closed and it will appear to audiences that he does not know what is happening. This will situate audiences in an omniscient narrative, meaning they feel privileged as they know more information than the character.

I will not follow the stereotypical codes and conventions of a male character. The main character will be portrayed as maternal and caring. There will be multiple shots of the man in distress, showing vulnerability, which is not typical of the representations of a male character. As well as this I will construct representations of different social groups, by showing audiences the juxtaposition of the two lives. My focus of this episode will be on the economic differences between social classes, and how money is an underlying factor in 'happiness'. The two actors featured in this episode will be white, therefore not representing multiple ethnic groups. However, the character off the bear will be seen by audiences as a faceless, genderless, ageless character that anyone going through the struggle can personally relate to. Finally, the purpose of my programme will be to bring attention to these topics, as well as to connect with those who understand the issues featured.

I will target my intended audience through the content and themes of my episodes. These themes and issues, such as drug abuse and homelessness, will be relevant for the age range I have targeted. Furthermore, the socioeconomic groups of C1, C2 and D will be the audience that personally connect the most with the content shown. Additionally, this programme has a similar target audience to that of ITV, as well as the themes of the programmes covering similar ‘hot topic’ issues. However, this production will differ slightly from the content on ITV channels due to its genre, as it is more alternative and gothic than the programmes aired currently.
